Betting tip World Cup 2018: Wales - Serbia

Saturday, 12.11.2016 at 20:45 o’clock (CET)

Group D's top duel

Next to Austria, Ireland, Moldavia and Georgia two more teams play against each other in the world cup qualification group D on the weekend. Wales against Serbia is probably the most interesting game of the group. Both teams fight for first place in group D in this game. Kick-off is Saturday at 8.45 PM.

Current form Wales

The euphoria after the sensational run to the semifinals of the EURO has faded a little bit in Wales. First they were rumors, that coach Chris Coleman would leave the national team, then the team didn’t perform very well. Their only impressive game so far was the first one of the qualification against Moldavia (4:0). The following match against Austria ended 2:2 in Vienna. Wales hasn’t been able to create much out of the game then. Both goals were scored after standards. Those are one of Wales’ weapons that could also be successful against Serbia. The negative peak of Wales was the meager 1:1 draw at home against Georgia. They even had to be lucky to score one point, because Georgia wasn’t able to convert a couple of great goal chances. Wales is very dependent on individual players. Above all there is Gareth Bale, who already scored three goals in this qualification. What’s positive is that Aaron Ramsey from Arsenal will be back on the team. His absence was obvious in the playmaking lately. Together with Bale and Joe Allen he is one of the important pillars of the Coleman-Eleven. Wales needs to work on their defense though. They simply enabled their opponents to have too many great chances lately.

Current form Serbia

Just like Ireland and Saturday’s opponent Wales Serbia is still undefeated after three games in group D and it should stay this way after the game in Cardiff. Lastly they deservedly won the hard fought game against Austria 3:2. Serbia mainly benefitted from Austria’s flaws on defense however. One could see Serbia’s strengths in this game too. Slavoljub Muslin’s team plays very good counter attacks. The wing players Tadic and Kostic are hard to defend for every opponent. Counter attacks may also be the way to success on Saturday, after all Wales will be forced to build up the game in front of their home crowd. Additionally one important player will be back for Serbia. We are talking about Chelsea’s Nemanja Matic, who has been suspended lately. On the other hand defensive player Dusko Tosic and midfielder Ljubomir Fejsa won’t play due to injury. Like their opponent Wales Serbia also struggled on defense lately. They received two goals in two of their three qualification games. Especially the ones against Austria were very cheap goals. Against Moldavia they clearly won 3:0 however and therefore Serbia proved that they can play well in away games. Wales will be a much harder opponent than the republic of Moldavia of course.

Betting forecast

For Wales much will depend on the form of day of their most important players. One great plus surely is the home court advantage. Serbia still has good chances, after all the Muslin-Eleven probably has the better individual players. We are counting on a draw in this game. Our recommendation: Tip X.
