Upcoming weekend, the second round of games in group F lays ahead of us, including the encounter between South Korea and Mexico. The Central Americans could reach the round of last 16 with a full success in this match, while South Korea also needs 3 points in order to keep its chances alive. As usual, we deliver everything worth knowing about the game and an analysis of the current form of both teams in our World Cup Betting tipps. Kick-off is on the 23rd of June at 17:00 (CET).

- opponent already under pressure
Current Form South Korea
In contrast to Mexico, South Korea already has its back against the wall. Anything but a win on Saturday would probably mean a dropout of the World Cup for the men from Asia, because the first group match was lost to Sweden 0: 1. Furthermore, South Korea has to face Germany in final game of the group stage and therefore has to win against the current World Cup champion – there are easier tasks in our opinion. Apart from the duel with the Scandinavians, the last results of Shin tae Yong’s team do not necessarily provide hope for its fans. Especially in the offensive line there seem to be some problems, because in the last 270 minutes of international encounters, South Korea could only achieve a single goal, as happened in the 1:3 against Bosnia-Herzegovina. After that, there was only 0-0 draw for South Korea to book, which is not a bad indicator if you take in concern, that Mexico met Bolivia not so long ago and did not get past a 0-0 draw as well. However, the problems on the offensive were also recognizable and highly pronounced against Sweden. Key players like Son or Hwang did not even come into play. In our opinion, the reason for this harmlessness in the offensive lays within the system, that the Koreans pursued in the opening game. In possession, a 4-3-3 was set, with Salzburg player Hwang coming on the wing. A position that is certainly not as fitting to him as the one in the Center, where he can drag attention from several opponents due to his fast and aggressive style of play. The numbers speak for themselves: not a single shot om the goal was taken after 90 minutes against Sweden. The best chance was missed by Hwang with a header shortly before the end of the match. In the defensive parts of the team however, there were problems with the powerful and physical game of the opponent, although the Korean formation was transformed in a 4-5-1 or 5-4-1 at possession of the Swedes. One of the few hopefuls for Saturday is goalkeeper Hyeon-uh Jo. Actually intended as a substitute, he justified his nomination tot he fullest extent and was able to parry 3 of the 4 shots on his goal with some strong reflexes. By the way, the defeat against Sweden was already the 4th in for the South Koreans in the current year. Even a look at the results of past encounters with the Central Americans can not provide much hope for Yong’s team: Of the last 10 clashes Korea has lost no less than 6, including the last match in January 2014, when they were beaten in a 0:4 loss. Only one of the last 10 games against Mexico, remained without a goal and in 7 of these 10 games more than 2.5 hits were scored in complete – therefore an according betting tipp is more than likely to happen. Moreover, South Korea needs at least one goal to keep its chances alive.
Current Form Mexico
Mexico provided one of the greatest sensations at this World Cup by defeating the current champions from Germany on the first matchday with a - not undeserved - 1-0 win. A result, which even our experts did not anticipate. Accordingly, the factor confidence speaks for the team of Juan Carlos Osorio in the match against South Korea on Saturday. In our squad analysis, we see benefits for the current Group G leaders especially regarding the offensive lines. Moreover, the playing style of "El Tri" could be made for a duel with the WM host of 2002 as well. To verify this thesis, we will take another look at the encounter with Germany, in which Mexico was very well adjusted in terms of tactics by badgering the weaknesses of its opponent. Especially Germany’s build-up game was treated by the Mexicans with consistent attacking. A problem that could arise in the match against South Korea, however: While Germany tried to participate in the game, South Korea is more likely to rely on quick counterattacks. However, we could recognise a weakness of Mexico in finishing counterattacks. If the spaces that were offered to the Mexicans especially in the final phase in their last game would have been used better, the victory would probably have been a good deal higher. Especially in the center Mexico presented itself extremely compact, covering German players by personal „guarding“ and thus narrowing the circles of Germany’s central midfielders. A means that could also work against South Korea, as we see the upcoming opponent even more dependent on the performance of individual players. However, South Korea is not to be underestimated by the Mexicans, because if you take a look at the results in the international match year 2018, it becomes clear that Mexico only was able to concede more than one goal in a single match, as happened at the 0:2 win against Croatia. In fact, only in one game the limit of 2.5 goals in total was exceeded. A betting tip, which seems quite likely for this Saturday's game, if we may again refer to the weaknesses of Osorio’s team in finishing its chances. Another strong aspect regarding Mexico: In 3 of the last 4 games, Mexico was not able to keep a clean sheet, although an according betting tip seems a bit too risky, especially because Korea necessarily needs a hit.
Forecast and Betting Tipp
In the duel between South Korea and Mexico, the pressure is clearly on South Korea's side. We expect that the Central Americans will succeed by bringing a lot of self-confidence on the pitch after the victory against Germany.
