Valencia wants to get rid of red lantern
Valencia is this year’s negative surprise in the Spanish elite league. They are currently ranked last after two rounds, but they have the opportunity to get rid of the red lantern on Sunday, when they play against Betis Sevilla. Sevilla wants to prevent that from happening of course. Kick-off is September 11 at 4 PM.
Current form FC Valencia
Last season FC Valencia made it into the knock out phase of Europe League. Right now this seems miles away. After two rounds the team is last in the standings of the Primera División because of not expected losses to Las Palmas (2:4) and Eibar (0:1). It’s worrisome that Valencia lost to teams that are no top teams at all. Considering Valencia’s roster they should have a good team however. The match against Las Palmas revealed that Valencia has problems on defense however. Offensively Coach Paco Ayestarán was able to score one goal per game so far. New signees like European Champion Nani or Martin Montoya have not been able to play up to their potential yet. Additionally they had to let go Shkodran Mustafi during the national team break. Ezequiel Garay from St. Petersburg is supposed to replace him. Munir El Haddidi is expected to bring more power to offense. The Spanish under 21 national team player was loaned from Barcelona shortly before the end of the transfer period. So far Valencia’s offense was depending too much on the daily form of Santi Minas. The striker scored both of Valencia’s goals this season.
Current form Betis Sevilla
Betis Sevilla started almost as bad into the new season as FC Valencia. Opposed to their opponent the team from Andalusia was at least able to put a point on the scoreboard. They drew 1:1 against Deportivo La Coruna in the second round. Before that game they were they held the red lantern after a 2:6 loss to FC Barcelona in the season opener. They now want to get their first win against Valencia. Problem area of Sevilla is mainly defense. Getting six goals in one game is simply too much, even if it is against the reigning champion. Gustavo Poyet’s team doesn’t seem to gel yet. Betis signed a lot of new players during the summer and that seems to bite them early in the season. At least they have a striker that is good for a goal at any time in Ruben Castro. He has been successful twice in the two games this season. Sevilla will need him again against Valencia, because their premium transfer Antonio Sanabria will miss the game on Sunday. They will have to improve their game and especially their defense anyway against Valencia.
Both teams have had a bad start into the new season. In order to turn things around Valencia has been active in the last couple of days of the transfer period and signed Garay. He should be able to compensate the leaving of Mustafi. Additionally Valencia can count on home court advantage on Sunday. Our recommendation: Tip 1.
