Current Form of Egypt
Whole Egypt’s breath was taken shortly before the start of the World Cup preparation. Mohammed Salah, who is Egypt’s absolute superstar and key player had to leave the field during the Champions League finale due to injury. Fortunately he got fit in time again for the World Cup. A lot of pressure rests on his shoulders though. Additionally one couldn’t get rid of the feeling in some preparation matches, that the Liverpool star is a bit tired and overplayed after a long season with the “Reds” in the Premier League and Champions League. Apart from Salah we see strengths on defence on Hector Cuper’s team. The coach, who is working with the team since 2015 is generally counting on a steady defence. This will be necessary against a team like Uruguay anyway. Physically we believe that the “Pharaohs” are on one level with Uruguay. A glance at the World Cup qualification shows how important the mentioned Mohamed Salah is for the team. Whenever the 25-year old scored a goal, Egypt was able to celebrate a win. A problem that doesn’t have anything to do with football, but still needs to be included in the analysis: The fasting month Ramadan affected the preparation, since it lasts until one day before the match against Uruguay. Therefore the physical component might tip the scale. Other key players on the Northern Africans’ roster are Arsenal midfielder Mohamed al-Neni, wing player Mohammed Abdel-Schafi, who will provide energy on the left side, as well as experienced keeper Essam al-Hadari, who is the number one on the team despite his 45 (!) years of age. The immediate preparation didn’t go too well for Egypt by the way: Most recently they lost 0:3 to Belgium, a similarly strong opponent as Uruguay, and before that they weren’t able to score against Colombia (0:0). Even against “football gnome” Kuwait Egypt was only able to draw 1:1. This was one of only two goals that Egypt was able to score in their last 5 matches. The direct duel against Uruguay also doesn’t provide much reason to hope. In the single match they played against each other so far, they suffered a 0:2 loss.
Current Form of Uruguay
We included Uruguay into the circle of favourites for the World Cup title for a reason. The team from Oscar Tabarez has not only been playing on a very high level constantly for years, but they also have extremely good individual players. They probably have the most dangerous forward duo of Group A. We are talking about Barcelona goal getter Luis Suarez and PSG forward Edinson Cavani, who are both top candidates for winning the golden shoe. Additionally it’s fact: Looking at the whole roster, it’s clearly the strongest one of the group. Uruguay also isn’t as dependant on individual players like Egypt is for example. A betting tip in form of a victory bet on Uruguay definitely is a good option in order to bump up your betting account. The most recent results that the Tabarez-eleven accomplished prove that too. Last Friday they celebrated a 3:0 success against Uzbekistan. A small disadvantage: This was the only preparation match that Uruguay played and it will also remain the only one. Therefore it’s not sure whether the automatism will grasp. The results from the qualification prove that one needs to count with Uruguay though. They finished second in Group A behind Brazil and scored 31 points in 18 matches. They also had the top scorer on the team, namely Cavani (10 goals). It’s also a fact that the South Americans yet need to lose a match in 2018. Before the victory against Uzbekistan they also beat Wales (1:0) and the Czech Republic. Therefore they haven’t received a goal in the last 270 minute of playing time, so one can’t say that Uruguay’s only strengths are on offense. On defence they have very strong players in keeper Muslera (Galatasaray), Gimenez and Godin (Atletico Madrid) or Sebastian Coates (Sporting). One advantage: Gimenez and Godin are the perfect mix of experience and youth and they also know each other very well, because they play for the same club team too. Additionally they have Maximilian Gomez from Celta Vigo as a forward back up, who scored 18 goals in 36 matches for Celta Vigo in La Liga. So he rounds off an enormously strong roster.
Forecast and betting tip
Uruguay heads into this match as the favourite of course. Additionally they will want to start successfully into the tournament. In total we believe that the South Americans are the more balanced team and therefore we would risk the mentioned win bet. Our betting tip therefore: Tip 2.
